How a Nigerian Sustainability Advocate is Bridging Faith, Business, and Eco-Conscious Living

Who is Chika Okoye?

Hello! I’m Chika Okoye—client relationship manager, real estate agent, fashion designer, and founder of Zee and Zams Naturals. But my proudest role? Co-founding The EarthPulse, an eco-advocacy blog dedicated to empowering communities through environmental education. In this post, I’ll share how my journey with The EarthPulse and beyond drives my mission to protect people and the planet.

From Nigeria’s Eastern Forests to Global Eco-Advocacy

I grew up in Nigeria’s Eastern Zone, a region blessed with lush rainforests, fertile farmlands, and rivers that sparkled under the sun. As a child, I learned the names of medicinal plants from my grandmother and watched farmers work in harmony with the land. But over time, I saw forests disappear, rivers polluted, and plastic waste suffocate the soil. This loss ignited my commitment to sustainability.

Key Takeaway

Our connection to nature isn’t just emotional—it’s survival. Healthy ecosystems mean healthier communities

How My Corporate Career Shaped My Eco-Mission

After graduating in Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, I spent 14 years in telecom client relations. Negotiating with CEOs and resolving customer issues taught me a vital lesson: change happens when people feel heard. Today, I use those skills to guide businesses and individuals toward eco-friendly practices. I joined the EarthPulse Team in 2022 with a simple belief that ‘sustainability starts with storytelling‘. Through blogs, workshops, and grassroots campaigns, we teach Nigerians how to combat pollution, protect biodiversity, and adopt eco-friendly habits, Sustainability isn’t about shaming—it’s about showing how green choices benefit both profits and the planet.

Sustainability Tip

Looking to align your business with sustainability? Start with small steps like reducing waste or switching to renewable energy.

Zee and Zams Naturals: Where Faith Meets Natural Wellness

My faith inspires my work. Ezekiel 47:12 speaks of plants with leaves for healing—a reminder that nature is God’s gift for our well-being. At Zee and Zams Naturals, I create coconut oil, herbal remedies, and organic beauty products using plants grown in toxin-free soils. A portion of profits from Zee and Zams funds EarthPulse reforestation and related projects. Because am aware that my business thrives only if the environment thrives. Deforestation and pollution threaten the very resources we depend on.
